If you choose to use sunscreen on your course, it must be non-toxic and “reef friendly.” Coral reefs are being damaged by the sunscreens and lotions that visitors wear—even at low levels. In response, reef-friendly, biodegradable sunscreens are often required. Our desert water sources are also fragile—to reduce the amount of toxic impact we have, BOSS now requires that if you use sunscreen products, they must be biodegradable and “reef-friendly”. Better yet—wear a broad-brimmed hat and lightweight long-sleeve shirt for protection!
